Still Dark — Privacy

How Still Dark treats your prayers. The short version: they're yours, encrypted, and no one else can read them — not even me.

Last updated: 2026-09-30

This is the privacy policy for Still Dark, a prayer journal for Mac and iPhone. It’s written in plain language on purpose. If anything here is unclear, email me.

The one-sentence version: your prayers stay on your devices and in your own private iCloud, encrypted end to end — there is no account, no analytics, and no server that I or anyone else can read them on.

What It Stores

Your prayers — the words you write — and the dates they were written. Nothing more. There is no name, no email, no account, no profile. Still Dark never asks who you are, because it doesn’t need to know.

These are stored locally on your device, and (if you use more than one device with the same Apple ID) mirrored to your private iCloud so they can sync between your own devices.

Sync & Encryption

If you sign in to iCloud, Still Dark syncs your prayers between your own devices through Apple’s CloudKit, using your private iCloud database. Two things are true about this:

If you don’t use iCloud, Still Dark simply keeps your prayers on the one device, and nothing is sent anywhere.

What It Collects

Nothing. Still Dark has no analytics, no telemetry, no tracking, no advertising, and no third-party SDKs of any kind. It makes no network connections except to your own iCloud, on your behalf, to sync your prayers. There is nowhere else for anything to go.

Face ID & Touch ID

Still Dark can lock behind Face ID (iPhone) or Touch ID (Mac). This uses Apple’s standard authentication, which returns only a yes-or-no answer to the app. Still Dark never receives, stores, or transmits your biometric data — that never leaves Apple’s secure hardware.

Your Control

Children

Still Dark collects no personal information from anyone, including children. It is rated 4+.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the date at the top changes with it. Still Dark’s whole design is to hold your prayers and stay out of the way, so there is little here that can change — but if it does, it’ll be stated plainly.
